About the library
A centre of learning on the Arctic Circle
The University of Lapland Library is the information centre for the most northern university in Finland - a scientific library open to everyone.
The collection includes materials for all the educational and research fields in the Faculties of Art and Design, Education, Law, Social Sciences, Tourism and Business at the University of Lapland. As a European Documentation Centre, the library includes the official publications of the European Union in its collection.
Professional co-operation
The library serves its customers at two locations on the same campus. Besides the Main Library, there is the Library of Art and Design at the building of the Faculty of Art and Design. The library also works in close co-operation with the Arctic Centre Information Service.
Towards information networks
Besides printed books and magazines, the University of Lapland Library offers materials in electronic form. On offer are electronic journals, reference databases and multimedia presentations as well as extensive Internet services. The Library of Art and Design places its emphasis on pictorial and digital materials. Information on the library collections is available in the JUOLUKKA database.
Service since 1979
The library supports efficient studies, teaching, and research by offering a range of services - from lending course books to extensive training in information retrieval, from rooms for group work to researcher rooms.
